Linear Equations in Two Variables

NCERT Exercise Exercise 4.3

If the point (3, 4) lies on the graph of the equation 3y = ax + 7, find the value of a

The point (3, 4) lies on the graph of the equation.
∴ Putting x = 3 and y = 4 in the equation 3y = ax + 7, we get
3×4 = a×3 + 7
⇒ 12 = 3a + 7
⇒ 3a = 12 - 7
⇒ a = 5/3
